Impact BetaResult under "Designing Supple Systems"
Impact was the the third iteration under the Main Theme "Designing Supple Systems". We took the learnings from Emoto, Friendsense and the LEGA and put that into something we called and experiental device. The focus still lies in speechless communication between friends with an emphasize on bodily movement. The design should allow both co-located interaction as well as interaction over a distance. For instance, co-located users may engage in a “kinaesthetic dialogue” where their bodily expressions influence each other as well as the “virtual expression”, while distant interaction relies more on the “virtual expression” to form the conversation.
Below is three key concepts that guided the ideation process as well as the implementation process during this project:
- Individualism - We need to make the system meaningful for the user - there needs to be a certain level of control. I want to know what I am leaving!
- Tactile comes first - The tactile sensation should be rated higher than the visuals. Visuals should work as support whilst tactile and sound as expression enhancers.
- Simplify, simplify, simplify! - Think simple. Do not complicate the system. Direct feedback should be fine-tuned. The direct feedback for the sender = output for the receiver.
